The Northwest Institute for Community Enrichment Summer of Solutions 2010 program will run for 8 weeks, starting in the last week of June (the 28th) and lasting through August 28th.  This program will be one of fifteen Summer of Solutions programs hosted around the country by Grand Aspirations. Planning leading up to the program will be done by the Corvallis Community Energy Project, the NICE Summer of Solutions 2010 planning team, and NICE Summer of Solutions Coordinators once they have been selected at the beginning of May.

(June 28 – July 2nd) The summer program will start with a week-long collaborative solutions organizing training and team building retreat for program participants and coordinators.

(July 3rd – August 14th) The general Summer of Solutions Program will last for 7 weeks and consist of:

  • Project specific support for Job’s Addition neighborhood resident teams- assistance networking, facilitating meetings, planning, fundraising, etc.
  • Adaptation of the Neighborhood Energy Listening Project and replication in partnership with another neighborhood in Corvallis
  • Weekly focus topics selected from curriculum for the collaborative solutions training (see figure below) that interns and community members reflect on, apply, evaluate, and adapt

(August 15th – August 22th) The last week of our program will consist of a week long national Summer of Solutions conference to debrief program participants and draw out major learning points. These reflections will also be utilized to adapt the Summer of Solutions programs for enhanced effectiveness in 2011.

Continued support will be provided for collaborative solution teams from Job’s Addition and the new neighborhood by the Corvallis Community Energy Project and Corvallis community partner organizations like the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition Energy Action Team and the Corvallis Environmental Center, and Summer of Solutions participants who reside in Corvallis year-round.  The Northwest Institute for Community Enrichment and Grand Aspirations will continue to support and network participants of the Summer of Solutions program.
